Keeping kids in school during the holidays in Rugerero, Rwanda
Every year, during the school holidays, Mindleaps and the Rubavu Primary School organise a four-week-long workshop for 150 vulnerable children of the village of Rugerero, Rwanda.
This year, the children attended daily dance lessons and Youth Empowerment workshops, where they learned about gender equality, domestic violence, STDs, teenage pregnancy, and business skills, including how to manage a microproject and the economics of agriculture.
On the last day of the workshops, they performed a dance-theatre piece for their community and local authorities and five girls lead a discussion about equality.
At the end of the workshops, three children were granted scholarships to attend boarding school and all children were provided with a medical insurance.
