The Healthcare Circle Launch
Thank you for joining us for the launch of The Healthcare Circle on 6 November at The Canal Café Theatre, London.
The Healthcare Circle is committed to hosting events that inspire and inform communities about important healthcare injustices facing some of the most disempowered women and girls globally. In support of The Circle’s key objective to end violence against women and girls, our first official event sought to raise awareness of the issue described by the UN as “a horrific abuse of power that reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes” – Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting (FGM/C).
We were joined by healthcare professionals, as they shared the life-altering impacts of FGM/C and explore ways in which we, as medical professionals, carers, teachers and active citizens, can best support vulnerable women and girls.
We were delighted to welcome an expert panel of speakers from various specialisms and expertise from the healthcare sector, including FGM/C specialist midwives Joy Clarke and Huda Mohamed, Obstetrician Dr Brenda Kelly, and Psychotherapist and Activist Leyla Hussein. Panel Discussion topic was Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting: How can we best support women and girls?
As members of The Circle we are committed to raising funds for The Circle’s project partners working to support victims of gender based violence. All funds raised from the tickets last night will go towards our Chai Day Campaign for 2019.
