Kickstarting Chai Day 2017 in London
With many thanks to one of our newer members and FCB Inferno, who generously hosted the evening, we held a successful launch of Chai Day 2017 with our members and their guests on 18 October.
The evening was filled with important discussions about violence against women and how Chai Day can help raise the much-needed awareness essential to eliminating gender based violence. Inspiration was drawn from the survivors supported by our various projects as well as from members and friends who have held a Chai Day before.
Santosh Bhanot, Chair of The Asian Circle, shared information and first-hand experience from The Asian Circle’s visit to their Brave New World project. Working with the Adivasi communities in east India, the project works with women and men with the aim of challenging the social acceptance of domestic and sexual abuse.
Gina Conway, Founder of Gina Conway Salons, shared stories from her visit to India with Water Aid, and the difficulties women and girls face with things such as going to the loo out in the fields, when they become more vulnerable to suffering sexual violence and the stigma around menstruation.
Many members and guests have committed to hosting their own Chai Day events on 25 November. We hope you will join us!
